Discovering civilization: historic and archeological traces of Islam in Indonesia
Maulana Muhammad Ali, the author of Religion of Islam, underlined that Islam is the last of the great religions--those mighty movements which have revolutionized the world and changed the destinies of nations. Unavoidably, Islam as one of the Abrahamic religion--which contains of values, norms, and traditions, since its emergence to Nusantara has brought a great influence towards human civilization. Islam has made possible a state of civilization which has again and again saved human society from disruption, beside developing and changing the prior civilization into any certain patterns with its typical characteristics.rnrnThe work of Hasan Muarif Ambary, Discovering Civilization: Historic and Archeological Traces of Islam in Indonesia (translated from Menemukan Peradaban: Jejak Arkeologis dan Historis Islam Indonesia) tries to trace and describe how Islam as a new religion came into Nusantara in about 12nd century predominantly affected all aspects of Indonesian life.rnrnAs an archeologist, the writer explicates facticities from historical and archeological perspective, particularly in tracing the way of Islamization of Indonesia and in the construction of civilization.rnrnTracing back the history of Islam as a civilization builder, socio-culturally plays very important role in building nation.
